Bulb Energy The Seventh Largest Energy Provider To Collapse

Taxpayers left with £1.7bn bill as Bulb energy ,the UK’s seventh-biggest energy firm, collapses
Bulb, Britain’s seventh biggest energy supplier, has formally entered into administration – becoming
the biggest victim so far of the crisis in the industry and leaving taxpayers with a £1.7bn bill.

The collapse was confirmed by the government after the company, which launched in 2015 and has 1.7 million customers, said earlier this week that it was set to enter a “special administration”
underwritten by the Treasury. It will mean hundreds of millions of pounds of taxpayers’ money being used to fund the company’s obligations in the wholesale energy markets to ensure that it can continue operating.

The CEO of Ovo Energy Ltd., the UK’s second-largest power company, questioned the government’s move to temporarily nationalise a competitor, adding to criticism of the government’s response to the country’s energy issue. In an interview, Ovo Group Chief Executive Officer Stephen Fitzpatrick commented, “It’s a bit of a mystery.” “There were some really practical options on the table.”
